Oi Linda

M.–

I’m in one of my better moods, too. It is an exquisite thing.

Poem
Frank O’Hara

Instant coffee with slightly sour cream
in it, and a phone call to the beyond
which doesn’t seem to be coming any nearer.
“Ah daddy, I wanna stay drunk many days”
on the poetry of a new friend
my life held precariously in the seeing
hands of others, their and my impossibilities.
Is this love, now that the first love
has finally died, where there were no impossibilities?

Good morning,
T.

    • It’s a lovely name. I always knew it is the Portuguese word for beautiful. Its variation in Jack Johnson’s song is I think perhaps a deliberate misspelling/mispronunciation to convey the speaker’s knowledge of the language.

      Belle
      Jack Johnson

      Oi, lienda, [Portuguese]
      Bella che fa? [Italian]
      Bonita, bonita, qué tal? [Spanish]
      But Belle, [French]
Je ne comprends pas français [French]
So you’ll have to speak to me
      Some other way.

      Translation:
      Beauty
      Jack Johnson

      Hello beautiful
      Beautiful, how are you?
      Beautiful, beautiful how are you?
      But Beautiful
      I do not understand French
So you’ll have to speak to me
      Some other way.

      T.
